How can we live without fear or anxiety in a World at war with itself and each other?
We all know what fear feels like
Your pulse pounds. Your brain goes blank. Your hands shake. Your legs and knees tremble. You tell yourself to take deep breaths, but the minute you do, you then wonder if others can see your heart jumping out of your chest.
This is the bodies stress response in action. It happens in response to danger.
We all know what anxiety feels like.
Your pulse increases. Your brain experiences a sense of fear. Your mouth is dry. Your chest aches. You feel dizzy.
The body experiences the symptoms of fear but there is no real danger. It’s anticipatory.
We live in a World where fear is our teacher. We have paid attention and studied hard. We’re proved right, time and time again.
Is it surprising that we are stressed?
Maybe you’re stressed by work? According to the Health and Safety Executive, 40% all work related illnesses have an underlying stress element.
Maybe you’re stressed at home? Stress levels are shown to be higher at home than work for those juggling a career with family commitments.
Maybe you’re dealing with a stressful life event, such as a break up of relationship, moving house, illness, bereavement, retirement or threat of job loss.
Maybe you’re in a “perfect storm”. An exceptionally bad situation caused by a combination of more than one of the above.
I guess we have every right to be stressed. We live in a World at war with each other, with ourselves, with our family, with our neighbours.
We look for danger everywhere and because we find it, so we expect it.
Love is a better choice than hate
Kindness is a better way than cruelty
Understanding must be preferable to revenge
Peace has to be superior to war.
What can you do to live your life in a more peaceful way?
When you own your breath, no one can steal your peace
When you experience fear, you lose your breathe. When you feel anxiety you alter your breathe.
When you receive or express love, kindness, peace and understanding you take ownership of your breath.
It sounds so simple and yes it’s not easy to undo a life time of learning, of studying hard and being proved right. But sometimes you just need to take a leap of faith to find a different way.
That’s exactly what I did when I signed myself up to a Transformational Breath® Workshop. I had an inkling there was something rather interesting in breath work, although didn’t expect the amazing benefits I got in return.
When I breathe using a conscious connected breath, I own my breath and find my peace. It was always there, it never went anywhere, and no one stole it.
